How about drug testing the MP's and Lords first and lead by example.

Only last year Commons speaker went to police over claims of cocaine use at Westminster - source independent

And Vice got a journalist to go round swabbing for substances in 2019 [Vice article coke found in UK parliament](https://www.vice.com/en/article/43jp9d/we-found-evidence-of-cocaine-use-in-uk-government-buildings)

Its nice to see the UK gov pandering to he Daily Mail readers with this utter stupidity. This is totally not an over reach and is most definitely what the youth of today would view as "a really good idea".

For fuck sake, lets hope Patel doesn't stand a chance of ever becoming PM

I forgot we have all these resources to process all this extra "crime" they will be creating. Not that the police service is already stretched as it is.

Typical deluded Tory shite. She must be burying her sad little beak in mountains of white every evening to get so high as to propose this insanity.

Tory's ain't a friend to anyone but themselves.

Maybe this would persuade the people who self medicate and would qualify for a prescription to change from illegal to prescription.

I personally think that people should have the choice to take drugs recreationally and not be criminalised for it, especially as alcohol is legal and causes so many deaths and violent crimes to be committed yet they are happy to make a fortune through taxing it the same as they do with cigarettes another known killer.

I'm a patient and feel so free since being prescribed yes there are both pros and cons but I feel the pro of being able to get on a train with the knowledge that I can get on a train and not worry about being persecuted for having the medication I need to survive far outweighs the lack of terps in something that costs £5 a gram.

So the opposite of every currently successful drug strategy. But exactly the things that appeal to Tory voters. It's a joke considering the cocaine use in parliament.

I did some digging and this is exclusively for class A drugs this was also under boris Johnson’s plans that he didn’t have a chance to put into effect anyway so this is a pointless story .and it was for middle class people only for some strange reason so if your lower class or upper class feel free to do as much class a drugs as you like

She is absolutely insane. Whilst the rest of the world are owning up to the horribly racist laws of the past 100 years we are in fact - cracking down - whatever that means.
I agree, if you are going to do this, start in Westminster.
It would not surprise me one bit to find out the people who will be offering the drug course if you are caught will be some private company she is involved with.
There is no way the current drug services with their current budget will be able to accept all these casual drug users that have been caught and don’t actually have a substance misuse problem.
I am a person with substance misuse disorder myself and my god the services are already fucked and have no money.
Putting people on a course like driver awareness but for drugs is just insane as it’s only like 1 in 10 or 1 in 15 that experience drug addiction when using harder drugs.
One of the most delusional drug strategies I have seen in the recent times - at least, I suppose we arnt following Duturté’s way in the Philippines - although if I get put on one of them courses I will Probabaly wish they did kill me instead.
Stupid stupid stupid

But how will Tory MP's attend foreign visits or drive to work?

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Policies like this will only increase drug related crime, deaths and make it impossible for people suffering with addiction to access safe using spaces and or help. yet more backwards policies.

Considering the state of the Tory government currently, this is a rather timely statement to make to appear to be tackling the issue of drug use.

Or is it just a PR stunt so the Tories can save face (whatever is left of it anyway.)
