Mamedica medical records issue

Hi, just wanting some advice on how to go about this. On the 30th October, I booked an appointment and paid £200 for access scheme. The same day I also uploaded my summary of care and proof of everything else. I am pursuing treatment for depression and anxiety which I have previously taken fluexotine and most recently stertraline for. I also have active suicide ideation on my record but that is being treated by cognitive behavioural therapy. I have never had phychosis or anything like that that they state would stop me from getting prescribed.

Fast forward to today and I recieved a phone call from Mamedica saying I have not provided enough proof of two medications and the clinician would like a letter from my gp about my suicide ideation. This has resulted in my appointment being cancelled and rescheduled to next month (December 2014). I had just been woken up by the call so I wasn’t fully awake and able to process the information being giving to. I said ok that’s fine however I called back ten minutes later as whoever I had spoken didn’t really give me enough information and it just felt like they trying to get me off the phone as quick as. When I called back someone explained it a bit better and said an email outling everything will be sent. I received the email and it was basically just two small bullet point sentences just saying I need proof of TWO medications and a letter from my gp about my suicide ideation.

I called my gp and explained everything above and forwarded the email. They weren’t happy with the email Mamedica sent and would like a phone call from them so they can discuss what they actually need as my summary of care covers eveything they need to know, they just need to read it. I sent an email to Mamedica explaining and this is where I’m up to.

As they are not treating my suicide ideation my gp is wondering why they want a summary letter written just for them when they can they gather this information themselves from the summary of care provided. The further proof of two medications isn’t too hard to get but as the proof is already there in the summary care it’s kinda creating more work for my gp.

Whilst my gp is great it has 38,000 patients so things take time and I was told this written summary letter won’t be ready in time for 14th. This is because I don’t have a permanent doctor, it’s just whoever’s available. So a doctor will have to read my summary of care as well before writing a letter.

Any thoughts on this? I requested for my SCR to be viewed earlier as I had a feeling something may happen and I received an email from someone over there saying it’ll be looked at sooner but this obviously didn’t happen it’s been left to last minute for me to sort out.

I don't think Mamedica want the patients right now. They seem a mess. If what your doctor would write is already on your SCR it seems a complete waste of a GPs time.

I mean I understand the need for them to be careful with the SI. But two SSRIs and therapy with this being used an adjunct I would expect to be pretty straightforward.

Obviously I don't know your SCR or history and neither should that be shared, but based on what you've said, the actions seem a little out of step with much of what you read. Even my own experience.

In my limited opinion, Mamedica should put their shutters down for a bit, focus on their present patient list, and get their house in order. No shame in that.

Ask specifically for your medication history. My summary of care didnt even mention i had been on 3 different antidepressants but my medication history did.

Just have to know the right words unfortunately.

If you can visit your GP reception, turn up and ask for a print out, which you can then scan or take a photo of and send to mamedica. They should be able to print it off in <5 minutes.

1) ask your GP for all your records. They’re yours, they can’t say no.

2) send them to JEC. Much better than mamedica. I have exactly the same mental health issues. Depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation.

JEC are great. Get refund from Mamedica.

Getting my documents to mamedica was s real pain as my gp repeatedly gave the wrong info, it was always lacking the treatments I requested be on it. This was my gp being awkward.

Mamedica need to see your past medication and all current medications. They need this so they don't prescribe anything that may have negative interactions. I ended up having to request a doctors letter with my specified information in to go along with the SCR.

In some ways I think I'd have been better off asking for all of my information as per a GDPR request, I'd have gotten it quicker and not had to pay.

It sounds like they may be doing their due diligence and ensuring there are no underlying mental health conditions which could be exasserbated by MC. scitozphrenia is a prime example. I saw a friend decline rapidly after using cannabis with that condition. I only say this as it seems they are interested about your suiside attempt.
Obviously I'm somewhat second guessing here as I'm not a doctor. Mamedica were very thorough in understanding my heart conditions to ensure my MC won't have an adverse effect.

You can download the letter from your full record on NHS website

I have heard of some drs wanting two meds from different classifications when prescribing for mental health reasons. They may not class the two medications you mentioned as being different ones as they are both SSRI’s. Could this be what they mean when saying lack of proof of two medications?
