First post so go easy🤣
Today my employer asked me to come for a 'chat' about my prescription.
They all know about me at work and have always been great. I rarely actually use my medication at work but if I do it's never an issue for them. Most of them smoke it and it's fairly relaxed but we do work for a lot of high value clients one being a major global defence company (who I hear are also pretty relaxed about mc)
I'm a plant mechanic by trade so I drive a lot and work on and drive heavy machines day in day out. Been a smoker 30 years so I have a high tolerance and I'm never 'high'
After a particularly long 18 hour day last week my employer received a complaint about the smell in my van from a customer.
I'd spent the entire day fixing and running generators about trying to keep a caravan parks freezer working while their electricity was off, I'd spent time fixing their generators and moved 4 massive ones 50 miles each with a pickup and trailer 4 times throughout the day. I started at 8 am and didn't finish till 3 am.
This customer had been with me at times throughout the day and never mentioned the smell to me, didn't appear bothered about me driving or fixing their stuff but still put in a complaint to my employer claiming that I stank of it and was obviously smoking but didn't appear to be high What ever that means. He made it clear that I was no problem while I was there, I had no issue performing my duties but he thought they should know.
The upshot of it is my maneger pulled me to one side today explained what had gone on and politely asked if I would provide a copy of my prescription for them to keep on file and update them with any relevant legislation to help them going forward.
I wasn't asked if I had medicated, he briefly mentioned maybe letting them know if I had and they could keep me off certain jobs but to me that kind of strays into discrimination as in my opinion I'm am perfectly capable of driving while taking my medication.
I've been at this firm two years and I'm the only one who's never damaged a vehicle there and in fact I've never actually crashed in 30 years of driving jobs.
It's a non story I guess just thought it does show attitudes are both changing and somehow also not.
I feel backed up by my employer but also a little guilty that I may have caused issues for them with a customer.
But I suppose understanding is reached only after confrontation.

What on earth goes through the minds of these petty little tell-tale numpties who feel the need to complain about people to their employers? Ridiculous. Am very glad to read that your employer was fine with it, but am left baffled by the pettiness of the snitch. Perhaps one day they might need MC themselves...that would be nicely ironic! Wonder if said snitch would file a complaint about themselves?

When you show your employer your prescription request they advise this customer their staff adhere to company procedure on drugs and medications etc. Be polite and firm.

Honestly, these stories of employers just being totally cool with weed blows my mind. My employer would tell me to go fuck myself 😂

To be fair to your employers, them re-arranging jobs is simply a wise business decision to avoid upsetting certain customers so I wouldn't pull the discrimination card.
It sounds like they have been quite reasonable and accepting of your prescription, so I wouldn't kick up a fuss but actually assist them because they are only trying to protect the business that pay your wages!
Hopefully, this is the last incident you ever experiance though 😄

In my life I’ve found a lot of people are fine with alcohol, something which can kill you near immediately because it’s legal.
Weed (not MC obvs) is illegal and people lose their minds. It’s a plant.
I know which I’d rather use and I’m now T total and intend to stay that way.

I’ve had this exact thing in the past and I don’t have a prescription. I’m also an engineer and have a very similar story they’re happy to get what they want (machines back up and running)then they throw you under a bus.
So if you have a prescription is it legal to drive whilst medicated???
