meta study. IBD 'wins'

with apologies to all you other sufferers here, i do get frustrated about how little is said about the benefits of MC for IBD. its all mental health, epilepsy, pain and cancer.

well an august 2023 study shows that it is actually most effective for IBD.

Full study here; [https://www.bmj.com/content/382/bmj-2022-072348](https://www.bmj.com/content/382/bmj-2022-072348)

but here is an intersting slide about efficacy;

[ok, so its kinda first equal with pain. whatever.](https://preview.redd.it/7eelod1of25c1.png?width=903&format=png&auto=webp&s=81eff894b43a0a0cf64879b81d7a0a7c6cfe8aee)

again, i do get very frustrated about the quality of these reports. how do you differentiate between cbm (cannabis based medication), cannabis and cannabinoids. and how do yuo getbrilliant pain reduction but not so good pain reduction and even worse pain reductioon? and why concentrte so much on so many minor and insignificant side effects for ms? ffs a bit of dry mouth aint a big deal if it helps with the serious symptoms of ms.

and then, despite 'winning' there is only 3 lines of discussion on IBD.

they also screened 8914 reports and couldnt find one on thc and epilepsy?

and this is all they said about mental health, which is bollox;

#### Mental health disorders, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease

*None of the 37 associations in various neuropsychiatric populations (ie, psychiatric disorders, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, opioid use disorder, and cannabis use disorder) was supported by either high or moderate certainty. Low (n=26) or very low (n=11) certainty was found for all the associations (supplementary table 4).*

i dont trust such meta analysis, except for the bits that confirm my confirmation biasof course!

What is even the conclusion of this meta analysis that medicinal cannabis has no efficacy treating IBD?

I don’t think you can truly understand the extent of how amazing cannabis for IBD unless you have the disease. It is a wonder treatment. Personally, it simultaneously helps me with:

- Pain relief
- Stress relief (as we all know, stress is a huge trigger for our disease)
- IBD related depression relief
- Seems to improve my gut functionality
- Suppresses sickness feelings
- Appetite regulation and control
- Seemingly anti inflammatory effect on my gut
- Helps so much with steroid side effects

The fact it can work on all of these at once is frankly, bloody fucking rad. That said, cannabis alone doesn’t seem to be enough to keep me in remission, it improves my quality of life to the point that I think I would be dead without it.
