Cannabis and ADHD

Hi guys,

Have any of you come off of ADHD prescribed medication and onto medicinal cannabis? If so, why? And has it been a better fit?

Thank you in advance!

I use my ADHD meds sparingly as I don’t love who I am on them even if they do help me a lot.

I rely on cannabis to help with anxiety, stress and chronic pain. If I have something important to do or I am working on something consistently then I will take them (eg at work, am not working atm).

Whether I take THC, Ritalin or do Yoga I am still me and nothing will change that. I can manage the intensity of my symptoms using a toolbox of different medications and therapies so I don’t know if it is better or not. Depending on the context of what is going on in my life, I will adapt what I consume.

I use both.

Generally speaking….

Amfexa for workdays and afternoon productivity then relaxing strains of cannabis to shake off the day and sleep.

Lazy weekends I mainly juggle hybrid cannabis strains and coffee then back to relaxing strains for sleep.

I find both medications beneficial and essential in many ways but I do aim for a balance between on and off (I have by no means mastered this)

I suppose I could manage with MC (coffee included) but I do not think I would be as effective as I would want to be in the real world. I guess this is why stimulants work best for me in work and social environments.

Not sure if I have even answered your question at this point (you know how it is) but just take one step at a time, note what works for you and be kind to yourself when you have to take a step back. Good luck 🤞

I have ADHD, I have never taken the meds as I was not diagnosed until I was an adult and find cannabis and coffee a better fit, there is also evidence the meds do not work for everyone and should only really be used as a means to help establish positive routines etc before coming off them, my doctors agreed hence medical cannabis not amphetamines

I do, and need, both.

Each person is different. Those with just ADHD may find stims to work great but for those with anxiety or PTSD as well cannabis is a great addition.

If you do have ADHD and unless you have an awesome job and situation with no stress nor pressure you may find you can't focus or are too tired.

I'm currently trying medications after being recently diagnosed. It's funny because I took concerta with not a single effect. It did absolutely nothing and my fuckin monkey playing cymbals brain didn't switch off. I had 2 gummies in the day time a few times a week ago, my brain was SO quiet, I was cleaning, sorting my fish tank out, cooking the dinner, and Al I could think is " THIS is what I want from my ADHD meds".

Ritalin / medikinet is an amphetamine that'll keep you up all day wired to the moon

Cannabis is the complete opposite and has been proven to sync your neurotransmitters

I take less stimulants now as I find a daytime cannabis strain quite effective. Before MC I was taking the maximum legal stimulant dose daily. Now it’s waaaay less than that.
