As an ex-Met Police Officer, I’d suggest raising to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

9 times out of 10, if complaints were internal - local inspectors would just get rid of them.

The IOPC should do a full investigation - especially if you make sure you say you feel you are being discriminated against under the equalities act.

"permission from the police to be in possession of cannabis"

Officer Dibble could I have my prescribed medicine pretty please?

Also, they had difficulties "to determine whether you were/are lawfully in possession of the substance"

Isn't a prescription and label on the 'substance' enough anymore? FFS.

> i am afraid police officers cannot be expected to know about every aspect of every law

I actually agree with this, with the caveat that if they don't know... they simply look it up on Ask the Police, Pocket Sargeant or whatever - that's what those tools are for, so they should fecking well use them instead of making false allegations!

Plus, "ignorance of the law is no defence" is oft quoted for *civilians*, so this does feel... icky.

Plus plus, the laws changed, what, 4 years ago now? This isn't something totally new.

Plus, plus, plus, does anyone here really believe the officers would have even thought about this if they found a prescription box of opioids? It's discrimination, pure and simple.

Police abusing their power and then not giving a shit. Sounds about right.

I'd contac the Equality advisory service or Civil Legal Advice line.

Best of luck!

The brightest humans never ever become police officers.

Now that he has confirmed the body-worn camera footage exists - NOW is the time to do a subject access request to access a copy of said recording which you may watch yourself.

“I am afraid that police officers cannot be expected to know about every aspect of every law which affects UK citizens and it is clear that the current situation with regard to medicinal cannabis use is complicated by a mass of misinformation, which could lead to members of the public facing prosecution.”

Yeah, even more reason for this particular law to be clearly explained and understood by members of the police. Ignorance isn’t an excuse I seem to recall them saying.

Edit: Also, the guy’s a spanner. He openly admits to being incapable of referencing and understanding a fucking law. He can’t exactly claim he doesn’t have the resources.

I feel like the only way this gets sorted properly is if clinics approach the government and seek advice in regards to law updating and law upholding for their patients because this shit is getting tiring

They never accept fault for anything. They literally outright lied about my case (non drug related) and I didn't even get an apology after I was proven not guilty in court. They will never admit wrongdoing so don't ever expect it unless they've brutalised you.

Wtaf!!!! Surely there's someone higher you can complain to, their the ones with misinformation, not us!!! I'm fuming!

Such ridiculous levels of nonsense. And the way they leave it like they STILL think you are lying about it 🙈 fuck sakes do your jobs you lazy pricks. Go check the prescription. Then check the law. Then be fucking men and apologise for making a mistake. That’s how you could gain just a little bit of respect back. But nope. The cops never ever ever ever do that. They can never be seen to be wrong. God complex bullshit

Take it higher. Absolute horseshit. THE WARRANT was not in your name. This was not a check up. They raided you.

Seek legal help asap.

“We have looked into ourselves and found we did nothing wrong”. That’s a surprise!

If people here were being referred by their GPs, they wouldn't have half the trouble they do in obtaining their summary care records!

Pursue civil action against them and pursue and independent review. police are corrupt bastards and 99% of the time will not uphold a complaint. They stick together.

Police SHOULD be informed of the law and have a duty to educate themselves and correct mistakes. You can’t just say ‘well we can’t be expected to know every aspect of the law’.

It would be discrimination because those on other drugs like opiates are not subject to search and questioned in the same way when it’s prescribed legally. Saying ‘it’s prone to abuse’ is not an excuse, many drugs are prone to abuse that doesn’t validate drug searches.

Would have more luck complaining about the warrant being issued for someone that doesn't occupy the premisis.

thanks for fighting the good fight.

i wonder if the police can give a single instance of someone illegally using cannabis whislt pretending it is legal via fake susbscription lables and fake letters from dotors? none is suspect.

except scamcard of course, which should be taken as prima facie evidence of illegality.

To be honest, I wouldn’t pursue this. I’m not convinced the Tories really intended cannabis flower to be prescribed as much as it is, or even if they thought it would happen at all. Generating too much news and agro is more likely to cause the government to reconsider the law and I can’t see Truss and co liberalising things…
