Free repeat prescriptions means you don't pay an admin fee for the private doctor to write the prescription. They send it to the pharmacy and you pay full price for the cannabis.
In reality, you may actually save money with another clinic who has discount schemes on the flower itself to make that cheaper, and then you pay a smaller amount for quarterly follow up appointments with the clinic instead.
Yes, to answer your question you won't get this on the NHS. You would be paying privately. Have you considered applying for PIP to help fund these private prescriptions? We both have a similar medical history by the sound of things and I qualify for these payments.
Even past attempts with medication will likely still qualify as long as the reason for not taking it remains relevant, and there is proof recorded that it was prescribed.
If you proceed with medical cannabis, you're looking at a starting price of £5 per gram if you go via a discount scheme. Full price flower tends to be somewhere between £6.50 and £8.50 per gram for something decent without the discounts.
Even if you decide that this isn't the way forward for you, I would encourage you to go back to seek alternative treatments from your NHS doctors. There's other medications than SSRIs that can be really effective at controlling your mental health that are well worth trying. Some may even overlap with common symptoms of CFS/ME too.
Free repeats is in relation to the admin fee it costs to process your repeat request. You would pay for the medication each month to give you an idea of the current prices medbud is a great resource. Not always 100% accurate but the prices usually are.
It sounds like you would more than qualify based on your previous medical history.
Quite a lot of them charge for issuing the physical prescription so when they say free prescriptions they mean literally the bit of paper that allows you to buy the medication.
At the moment the majority of us are self funding. I have read recently about one person being refunded their treatment costs but that is just one in however many thousand we are.
I get PIP and ESA and fund 2 prescriptions at the moment. One for my partner and one for me. We could just get it on one (but one of us would then be using illegally) but I want the legal protections for issues such as driving and he wants the treatment to be taken into account for his NHS treatment. I think he is annoyed with being seen as a drug user. I do this on PIP and ESA but we both get enhanced on both elements of PIP and live a very frugal lifestyle outside of weed. Before the prescriptions, I was refraining from using so that we could fund my husband's weed illegally. I'm probably spending about the same amount now for both.
The cost of the medication honestly depends on what you want and how much you use. A new user could probably use as little as 5g a month which can cost from £27.50. A high (teehee) user could use possibly 90g or more a month which would cost from £495.
The assessment and follow up costs are where most clinics differ. Mine charges £50 for the first and then you have one a month later. So say you got 10g per month your first month cost would be £155. At your second follow up you could discuss changing the meds but if you're happy you would then go 3 months before a follow up so your second month cost would only be £55 for the medication. The £200 deal that you see would cover all these costs bar the medication costs but for life (well the life of the clinic at least) so your first month would be £255 (at 10g of cheapest) but from thereon out whenever you need a follow up, or want to change medication it's free (apart from the medication)
I'm not sure if it's just 2 types of treatment recently or 2 types ever. The £200 place said they'll have a chat with you before booking the appointment to see if they think you will be accepted.
