If you know why your blood pressure's high did you explain this to the GP?

Blood pressure and Cannabis are definitely related but to what degree, especially for you personally, we just don't know.

It could be that long-term use has created - or is acting as a catalyst for - a new baseline for your blood pressure; or it could be only very mildly effecting you (and everything in between). We just don't know because we don't have the set of data that specifically correspond to you as an individual and your specific set of circumstances.

It is very likely, however, that it is having a contributing effect - especially immediately after administering it.

Cannabis is known to decrease blood pressure but only when being used. And it’s the main cause of people “greening out” when they’ve consumed too much at once. The sudden drop in blood pressure is what makes them feel sick and dizzy.

I’ve not heard of it raising blood pressure personally, but everyone reacts differently to things so who knows.

I've got hypertension, told doctor at clinic when assessed and doesn't seem to be an issue as I was approved. I've read conflicting research on it, some said it increases BP and another research paper said in older people it decreased BP after 6 months. I am obviously hoping for the latter.

Don’t think the doc really meant anything by it, seems correct on what he’s saying medically.
I think it’s more to do with questioning his medical profession than the cannabis itself.

THC does increase your heart rate, I’m not a doctor so don’t know if that increases blood pressure.

I wouldn't say the GP was being unreasonable. I think the theme of their comment about daily monitoring was valid as it could be difficult to say for sure if cannabis had nothing to do with it without close regular monitoring. I hear your frustration if their tone was a bit off though.

My understanding has always been that you get a mild increase in BP for 10 or 15 minutes. I have to monitor mine every few weeks and have found that cannabis tends to lower my systolic pressure (the number given first) by about 10, but I only tend to take a measurement when I have been high for an hour or so.

I can't comment on your GPs tone of voice, but I think what they said makes sense. As with a lot of cannabis research, much of it is anecdotal and for every article you find that says 'cannabis can help with...' you will probably find one that says 'cannabis will cause...'.

IMO If it's his professional opinion that there's no evidence regarding a medicine that has been legal in some states for 15 years then he needs retraining.
Did he prescribe you a blood pressure monitor so you can take a blood test every day?
Did he address your health concern at all?

I would tell my clinic, and ask if they can write and direct your GP to some of the supplementary education on endocannabinoid medicine offered by the UK Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society: https://www.ukmccs.org/
I would ask your GP Practice for a second opinion if they have other doctors, or ask about their complaints procedure.
Sad to see some healthcare professionals still act like this.

I am prescribed ADHD meds (elvanse) and I know that when combined with them cannabis is likely to increase blood pressure significantly until the patient is tolerant to both medicines.
I have seen studies - and replicated their results with my own thrice daily blood pressure checks - that show cannabis can increase blood pressure by half again whatever rise the ADHD meds cause, and in combination that is enough to put most people into hypertension.
I stopped cannabis to start ADHD meds, and it was three months later before I slowly re-introduced cannabis.

It's possible that if you take any medication with effects on blood pressure that cannabis has some additional effect, but you'd need to test to know if that is for better or worse.

Not medical advice, speak to your cannabis doctor for that :)

By law, your clinic has to inform your GP that you have been prescribed MC so the GP won’t prescribe you anything that contradicts it. If you look in your NHS app, you’ll see it at least says “sativex” because that is recognised by the NHS. Mine says Adven Flos too but the drs don’t really know what that means. However, sounds like your GP has a personal opinion about MC and it’s uses. Sorry about that. My GP encouraged it and after a trip to the hospital with palpitations, the cardiologist said crack on. If your GP is discriminatory, complain to the practice. Good luck. 👊🏽👍🏽🤘🏽
