Vaping High

I am struggling to change to vape as I feel like it gets me unpleasantly high, I've found Glory Sum Cookies to be an extremely effective strain for me when smoked. It melts my crippling anxiety and allows me to be me without feeling impaired or intoxicated. I smoke a kingsize RAW cone and it's perfect. When trying a much smaller amount in my Pax 3 starting about 180 and increasing to 200 I feel uncomfortably intoxicated for about an hour and not functional. It then mellows and ok but it's not like the effects from smoking which really suit me. Does anyone else experience this? Does anyone have any tips on how to improve this or will it never give me the smoking effects? I'm in 8 months recovery for alcohol dependence and medical cannabis has saved me at times as well when my head takes over and very helpful in not drinking but I don't want to feel intoxicated. Even though it's a very different feeling I'm not looking to get baked just live life being me without crippling anxiety, insomnia and depression. I have diagnosed ADHD and being referred for Autism assessment as well.

I have a hypothesis and some suggestions from personal experience, not a medical professional.

The hypothesis is that the carbon dioxide, monoxide and tar from smoking is what makes you feel that the smoking effect is more relaxing as it literally slightly asphyxiates you so your oxygen levels are reduced while your cannabinoid levels rise.

It could be that smoking that strain is destroying enough of the THC that it balances out better, but as an ex smoker, it is the sedative drop in blood oxygen saturation that I felt was missing for a long time. That may be caused by the carbon monoxide/dioxide and tar coating in my opinion. So, it might calm you, but it is not as good for you physically.

So, options I would recommend are either:

1) Get a high CBD strain from your clinic and try that. CBD tends to mitigate the high effects.

2) If that is not possible, buy some CBD flower online from such as 'Hemp Elf' which took 5 days for mine to come and was incredible successful. Using some CBD flower with just a bit of the Glory Sum Cookies will make it a calmer and gentler effect with less high.

3) Use a lot less of the GSC and see if they still work for you. If not, try getting a high strength CBD vape together and again, balance that up with the GSC.

I have autism and adhd. I've pretty much been smoking weed every day for the last 23 years and find smoking more beneficial for me also. I do have a mighty but really can't get used to it. If I have a vape, then I need a cigarette afterwards and end up finding it takes up a hell of a lot of time, so I just mix them (sorry). Obviously, it would be nice to eventually stop using tobacco as of the obvious health benefits. I've used American Spirit tobacco for the last 15+ years and find this doesn't destroy my lungs like other brands. I understand that Canada is a different country but it's part of our commonwealth, so I medicate like them as the laws here are yet to catch up.

The bowl in the Pax is one of the biggest bowls on any handheld vape on the market, and the worst things about this are it doesn’t work well unless you tightly pack it and it’s a session vape so it’s really not designed to vape a little and come back to finish it later.

There are other vapes on the market with significantly smaller bowls that I think you might get on with better. You can also experiment with lower temperature settings, although I personally find anything lower than 180c isn’t very satisfying but you may find otherwise.

I recently read to try smoking a cigarette before, during or just after vaping so u also get the high from the tobacco. I also am struggling with vaping but I definitely think it’s the way forward. Good luck i hope you find your happy medium.

I'm BPD and various other physical and mental issues.

I followed the manufacturer's advice. 220, 2x 10 secs hits, then 2/3x 6 secs hits.

I do that 4 to 5 times a day, from morning to lunchtime, unless I'm driving that morning, then I wait until I'm home.

I could definitely go a higher thc level, as I just feel evened out.

I read on here, less is more.

What are the opnions on temperature and hit length?

You don't need to finish the whole bowl in one go... Either load less weed or use the bowl up through multiple sessions. e.g I load a full bowl in my arizer air max and take 2-3 big hits each session, up to 3 sessions.

Maybe just need to wait and see if your tolerance increases.
I have glory sum cookies aswell, it’s not my best strain for anxiety but it is good.

The pax standard chamber is quite large compared to the mighty/crafty and other vapes on the market. My pax came with a larger plug for the bottom so you can fill it like 50%

If you continue vaping over time you will feel less of a high but still get benefits. Combustion burns a lot of the THC wasting it so it’s possible you’re very sensitive to THC and need a stain with less in for vaping. Other than that you could try putting less in the bowl or mixing in some CBD flower.

Sometimes, vaping is difficult to judge because he effects are so clean. It is easy to over medicate because it creeps up on you if you hit it hard. Smoking is more instantaneous so you kind of know what to expect, but vapin can take practice to get right…like the temperatures for different cannabinoids and terpenes. Maybe I am trying too hard to explain what are your personal experiences…all you can do is experiment with amounts, temperatures and strains.

Could be the terpenes causing sedation, you won't get that with smoking as you are incinerating it but with practice you would be able to dial it in, but understandably some people can't quit smoking it. It's a huge learning curve when switching.

Have you tried putting less weed in your vape? Or taking less hits? You get a lot more effect from a smaller amount when vaping.

I'm a heavy user but I keep mine set to 190 or less. Still get all the terpines and eventually some THC but it's well below the boiling point so not so much of an instant "high".

I’m adhd and aspergers/asd. I vape at 195 and for an hour afterwards I’m exactly like you’ve described. Incapacitated for about an hour and after that I feel great. Use in the evening about 2hrs before bed and wake up a lot better (because I’m not getting hammered drinking now)

Not a cannabis smoker before but had a self medicating alcohol problem before I found out I had neurodevelopment issues. It’s completely stopped that.

I’m in the same spot, I moved from my bong and joints to vaping and MC about 6 months ago and I can’t handle it lol. Been smoking daily for years and have a pretty high tolerance but vaping puts me on my arse and I’m getting fed up of being so out of it. I have problems with my lungs so vaping is kinder and sometimes I need to be blitzed but like you said, it gets really uncomfortable being so out of it with zero function.
Sorry that really isn’t much help, it’s good to know it’s not just me haha

Yeah, vaping effects are also not as therapeutic as smoking to me. They're about 30% as effective.

I do get high, it's just not the effect I need.
