Cannabis should be legalised under herbal medicine since it's a 5,000-year-old traditional Chinese herb.
Hi everyone,
I'm Jia, a patient and founder of The Cannabis App, and I believe cannabis should be legalised under the [Herbal Medicine exception from the 1968 Medicine Act Section 12.2.](https://bhma.info/legislation-on-herbal-medicines/)
I made a [video on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfah6LswcJg) about this, hoping the mods will allow me to post a link in this discussion.
I'm interested to hear what you guys think about cannabis legalisation under herbal medicine. I've been observing legalisation progress and have become frustrated with the debate between recreational and medicinal.
Medicinal feels like a red herring designed to divide and conquer the community. For me, Cannabis is a 5,000-year-old traditional Chinese medicine and should be exempt under the law. Since it is now a schedule 2 medicine here in the UK, we should all be allowed to access it through a natural herbalist.
The [World Health Organisation](https://www.who.int/health-topics/traditional-complementary-and-integrative-medicine), [European Health Agency](https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/human-regulatory/herbal-medicinal-products), and even our very own [NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/herbal-medicines/) have formal recognition of traditional herbal medicine. So why is a plant that was first used 5,000 years ago to treat seizures now a pharma-controlled substance treating epilepsy?
When will someone give it a try and apply for a [Traditional Herbal registration](https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-a-traditional-herbal-registration-thr) for Cannabis, given its long-documented historical use?
Is anyone qualified in law able to shed some light on whether this approach would be for Cannabis legalisation? I hope I'm not going mad here with this idea for legalising cannaibs under herbal medicine. If anyone agrees this can be done, please write to me, would love to test the law on this and see if we can finally make it legal for herbalist and home growers to find protection and freedom.
Peace.
